The stories only
your family can tell.
Keep the sound of their laughter, the way they say your name, and the memories behind the photographs. Build a private family collection, one contribution at a time.
Begin with a person, a photo, or a question.
Create a collection for yourself or someone you love. A few introductory questions help you begin, and you can come back whenever another memory surfaces. There is no need to prepare a complete autobiography.
Record an audio story, switch to video, or write an answer. Keep the original recording with its transcript. You can review the text, correct names and details, and give the story your own title—or ask Emmy to suggest one from the transcript.
Let your family fill in the little details.
Invite relatives to an existing collection so everyone can contribute in one place. A family member might remember a nickname, have an old photograph, or know the question that brings back a wonderful story.
The collection’s steward chooses who gets access. Invitations can approve a person when they accept, or require a further review. An invitation does not establish the storyteller’s permission to be recorded.
To avoid duplicate collections, ask whether your family has already started one before creating another for the same person.
A photograph can be the beginning.
A memory seed is a prompt for a future story: a person, place, photograph, or half-remembered event. Add a short description and an optional image, then let the storyteller take it from there.
You can also save Moments: photographs, performances, and short audio or video clips with a description. A song or a scene in a play can belong in the collection without becoming a transcribed story.
Record in a way that feels comfortable.
Use a compatible phone, tablet, or computer with a microphone. The browser Storyteller offers a focused recording screen, including on a spare phone or tablet. The optional dedicated Storyteller device keeps the experience focused on this service.
The dedicated device connects to home Wi-Fi, offers story suggestions, and records up to ten minutes per story. Listen back and choose to save and upload the take. Different devices can be connected to the same person, and a household device can offer multiple approved people.
Choose a recording language that feels like home, or set an optional weekly reminder to help you return.
Enjoy the memories in more than one way.
Listen together in the collection, choose stories for a family storybook, or make a printable ornament or gift tag with QR playback. The words, photographs, and familiar voice can stay connected.
Collections are private to their owner and approved contributors. QR playback has its own sharing choice; a code does not automatically open the rest of a collection. Read about privacy and control.
A few more questions.
Do I have to answer every question?
No. Start with whatever you want to remember. A short answer or one recording is a useful beginning.
Does everyone need their own account?
Family contributors use their own accounts and approved access. A connected household Storyteller can offer approved people a simpler recording screen.
