Your family, in print.

Arrange your recordings and Seed photos into a book you can read, save and print.

The first version is available to collection owners. A contributor or paired Storyteller device cannot create or open book drafts.

  1. Open a person's Collection and choose Create a storybook.
  2. Choose up to 40 recorded stories. Around 10 stories is a suggestion, not a requirement.
  3. Add a book title and optional dedication. Move chapters up or down, review the story text, and optionally choose one Seed photo and caption for each chapter. Under Hear this story, choose Add playback code to include a QR link to the original recording. If a transcript is missing, type the story text yourself.
  4. Choose Save draft to save privately. Use Saved drafts to reopen a book later. Up to 20 drafts can be saved for each owner and collection.
  5. Choose Update preview and review every page. Changes to your book make the previous preview out of date; update it again before printing.
  6. Confirm you have permission to include the words and photos, then choose Print / Save PDF. In your browser's print dialog, choose Save as PDF or a printer, use 6 × 9 inch paper at 100% scale with no margins, and turn off browser headers and footers. Enable background graphics for the navy cover. Check the print preview before saving.

Appendix · Moments & keepsakes

Choose up to 40 photos, performances or clips from Moments. Arrange them and add optional dates, descriptions and QR playback. No transcript is needed. Selected images and captions are included in your PDF and sent to Lulu when you approve printing; original audio and video stay in Imprint.

Your original stories stay as they are

Book edits affect the draft only. They do not change the original recording or its transcript. Story attribution remains attached. The draft preserves the words you selected; later transcript edits do not silently replace your book text. Photos are loaded from the selected Seed when you preview the book.

Missing source stories or photos must be removed or replaced before you can save or preview. If another window saves the same draft, reload the saved version before trying again; keep any unsaved edits you want to copy across.

A private draft, a shareable physical copy

Draft manuscripts stay in Imprint's private storage. Only the account that owns the collection can open its own drafts. A downloaded PDF or printed book can be read by anyone you give it to, and cannot be recalled by changing collection access. Confirm permission from the people whose words and photographs you include.

Hear the story from the page

Each chapter can include an optional QR code. Family sign-in required is the default: readers must already have approved access to the collection. Anyone with this code is a separate choice requiring permission acknowledgment; it lets anyone who receives or photographs that code play that single recording without signing in. Codes never grant collection membership.

Save your draft after adding a code. Reopening the draft reuses that code for reprints. Update preview checks that the recording and code are still available. Scan a printed test copy before gifting your book.

Remove code from book removes it from future book previews only. It does not stop playback from copies already printed. Disable this code, followed by Confirm disable for every printed copy, stops playback for all copies using it. Other codes for the same recording keep working. Changing a story title does not change the code.

QR playback requires Imprint to remain available, the recording to exist and the code creator to retain collection access. Disabling a code does not recall downloaded media or the printed words and photos.

Choose paperback or hardcover

After saving a draft and confirming permission, choose Paperback or Hardcover · printed casewrap under Book binding, then choose Prepare print PDFs. Paperback is the default. Both formats use standard color, 80 lb coated white interior paper and a gloss cover. Hardcover has the artwork printed around the boards, without a dust jacket or foil stamping. Your saved proof keeps its chosen binding; prepare a new proof to switch. You can create both formats from the same draft. Download the separate interior PDF and wraparound cover PDF. Both use a 6 × 9 inch interior layout with 0.125 inch bleed, embedded fonts and mirrored inside margins. Each binding has its own cover geometry and spine width. Hardcover includes a 0.75 inch wrap around the boards; do not use its cover PDF for paperback or vice versa. This layout has its own page count, which can differ from the browser reading preview.

Each proof is a fixed snapshot of that saved version. Later edits do not change previously generated files. Each generated proof has its own number, the draft version it came from, and a creation date. Proof numbers continue increasing even after an older proof is deleted. Saving draft changes increases the draft version; generating another proof from the same saved draft keeps that version. Up to five active proofs can be retained per book. Use Delete proof, then confirm, to remove an unused proof and free a slot. This does not delete the saved draft, original stories or photos. A proof with an active quote, file check, payment or print order is protected; the page explains why. An unpaid price quote normally expires after 15 minutes. Paid proofs remain protected for the order record. Downloads require the collection owner to sign in. If a source story or photo is removed, or a printed playback code is disabled, the old proof is no longer offered for download. Downloaded copies cannot be recalled.

Photos keep their proportions and are sized for at least 300 pixels per inch; small source images therefore print smaller. No artificial enlargement is used. Unsupported text characters are reported so you can replace them in the book draft. Original recordings and transcripts remain unchanged.

Review every page and scan a printed QR test. Lulu requires at least 32 interior pages for paperback or 24 for hardcover. Shorter books still produce a proof with a warning; pages are not bulk-padded to reach the minimum. The renderer supports at most 500 interior pages. Its local checks are not Lulu acceptance or PDF/X certification.

Order a printed book

On a saved proof meeting its binding’s minimum page count, choose Order printed book. The current version offers United States delivery. The proof’s binding is shown on the order page and cannot be changed during checkout. Each binding is validated and quoted separately; review the total before paying. Download and review the interior and cover, then confirm permission to send those two PDFs to Lulu for validation and printing. Preparing a proof alone does not send it to Lulu.

Choose Check print files with Lulu, then Check file status until both files pass. Lulu checks print compatibility, not spelling or the accuracy of the stories. If the saved draft changes, prepare and review a new proof.

Enter the recipient’s delivery address and phone number, choose 1–10 copies, and find delivery options. Choose Get my total. The total includes printing, delivery, Lulu’s reported tax and Imprint’s $10 markup per copy. STORIES5 deducts $5 once per order, even if you buy several copies. Codes cannot be stacked. No separate PayPal fee is added. Quotes last 15 minutes.

Confirm the exact proof, recipient, number of copies and total, then continue to PayPal. Your payment goes to Imprint, which places the matching order and pays Lulu separately using its saved payment method. Only a confirmed payment releases the approved book to Lulu. The delivery address and phone number are shared with PayPal and Lulu for this order; original recordings are not sent for printing.

Your receipt shows payment and printing status separately. Sent to Lulu means the print order was submitted, not shipped. Check your recent book checkouts before starting another payment if a result is uncertain. Keep your checkout reference. Contact help@project-imprint.com promptly for help; changes or cancellation may not be possible after printing starts.
