Your stories, in your language.

On Record a story, open the compact Spoken language control beside the speech icon to see a searchable, scrollable list. Select one language for your recording. Opening the control does not change the selection. English is the default. Search by language name, or choose Detect automatically if you are unsure. Specifying the language is usually more predictable for short recordings.

Remember a person’s language

The profile owner or participating storyteller can leave Remember this language selected. The preference is saved when they start recording and applies to future recordings for this person, including uploads from a connected Storyteller device. Contributors can choose a language for their own recording without changing the profile’s remembered preference. Existing recordings keep their original language.

Original and English text

We keep the original audio or video, its automatic transcript in the spoken language, and—when the language is not English—a separate AI-generated English translation. On a saved recording, choose the language name or English translation to read either version. Translation runs privately on our server and may finish after transcription. Use Refresh stories to check progress.

Language support does not mean equal accuracy. Please review dialects, names, relationships and important details. Automatic language detection can misidentify short or mixed-language recordings. The app’s buttons and instructions remain in English.

Corrections stay under your control

The recording contributor can edit the original-language transcript and English translation independently. The original recording and automatic text remain preserved. Editing the source marks the English version as potentially out of date; it is not silently overwritten. To regenerate it, choose Generate a new English translation. Replacing a reviewed English version requires the contributor’s explicit confirmation.

If translation fails, the original recording and transcript remain available. Do not discard a story because its translation needs correction. Printed books currently use the text selected or edited in the book builder; inspect the print proof for the language and characters you need.
